PCC for CP at Chennai - Urgent please

My wife and I have applied for CP at the Chennai consulate. Our interview is likely to be in December. We are leaving for India in mid-November and would like to get our PCC before that.

Can some one who recently completed a CP interview at Chennai please tell us where we should get the PCC for the interview?

1. Since we are in the US, should we get the PCC from the Indian Consulate in the US? or should we get it from India? or should we get it from both places?

2. If we need to get it from India, where should we get it from? police station or the regional passport office?

3. If from the police station, Fom the local police station? or Local district police station? or from the police station under whose jurisdiction the place you had lived for more than 6 months since age 16 falls?

Please let us know so that we can act on it fast so that we can get the PCC before we depart. From some of the earlier postings, I understand that getting the PCC from the Indian Consulate in the US could take upto 45 days! which we don't have.

Your help is highly appreciated.

Thank you,

If you have stayed in US for couple of years then obtain PCC from Indian Consulate nearest to you. It takes around 6-7 weeks to get the PCC from the date you apply. Download the form the website and provide all the necessary documents and fees. The consulate will send the request to your regional passport office. If they (consulate) do not hear from passport office for 40 days, then they will issue PCC to you. If your passport office can reply early you will get PCC sooner.

You do not need PCC from India. Hope that helps.

BTW, if you knew that PPC takes 45 days, you should have applied in time. The PCC is good for 6 month to a year (depends on which US consulate you are applying for CP).

ansa,

I already replied to these qs in another post where you posted same qs :)

Anyways ... Indian consulate in SF says one month for PCC if passport is issued in Indian and same day if passport issued in USA.

averma and gca2405, thank you both for the information.

Dear gca2405, I wasn't sure if my question would get answered in my earlier post, since it belonged to an older thread and so started a new thread :)

Your response was very helpful.

One more clarification, I have been here for more than 9 years, so I will definitely get the PCC from the Indian Consulate in New York (we live in the mid-west). But in my wife's case, she joined me here after our wedding in April 2004. Is it enough if she gets her PCC from here or does she have to get a PCC from India also? (since she hasn't been here for more than 2 years).

Thank you once again.

You should only need PCC from Indian consulate. I guess whole mid-west is covered by Chicago consulate not NY. You may want to verify before applying.

Check which Indian Consulate you need to apply at and if possible, pay a personal visit and explain the situation. They might speed up.

But both of you need PCC from Indian Consulate in US.

My passport was renewed in US and my wife had her original passport issued in India. We mailed both our passports and the applications together and we both received the PCC together in about 33 days.
