PCC - Consulate info

Is there a specific Indian Consulate servicing a particular state? If so, where can I find that info? For example, I am in Ohio. I am told that I need to apply for my PCC in New York. Since Chicago is closer to me, I was under the impression that I can apply to the consulate closest to you. Is my assumption right?

Secondly, How long is the PCC valid? My lawyer says that If the PCC is obtained now and the interview is in December, there is a good chance that the Chennai consulate might request for a more current PCC. Is my lawyer right? What are the steps that I need to follow to obtain the PCC?

Thanks,

Srini

Your Lawyer is absolutely wrong. PCC is valid for one year. PCC validity by US consulates in India is 6 months. Go get your PCC now. Chicago takes 30 to 35 days to issue you a pcc.
That means you will have your PCC by end of Oct. That gives you a lot of space for December or Jan or Feb interviews. Chennai also requires a local PCC. Make arrangements for that PCC.

Hope this helps.

Chicago or New York

I was told by my friend the I have apply for PCC in New York and not in Chicago ? Is it true??

Should I send my original Passport while applying for PCC? What is the procedure ? Is it $15 per applicant or per family?? Can I send both mine and my wife's passport in one cover??

Thanks,

Srini

PCC is valid for 1yr.

I asked chennai us consulate about the validity of PCC. The response was PCC is valid for 1 yr from date of issue.

Chennai does not require a local PCC. If you have been only in India and US for more than 6 months after 16yrs age, PCC issued by Indian Consulate in US is sufficient.
