Hello Alren, Raju and other CPers :-

My attorney swears that I need PCC from Mumbai while here on the Forum, I have read numerous times that I need PCC from the local Indian Consulate in US. I send an email to the US Consulate in Mumbai and they confirmed that I should get it from the local Indian Consulate in US. Please double confirm. I have been in the US since 2000 on H1B.

What happens if at time of Consular intervie they demand for PCC from Mumbai. I will obviously show them the email .... but just in case.

Thanks,

you DEFINATELY need to get PCC from local Indian Consul here in US. NO PCC required from India.

Thanks,

The only PCC you need is from the Indian Consulate here in US. Hundreds of
candidates have attended the interview with the same situation and with just one PCC from Indian consulates and did not face any problem.

Raju
Whoa! what happened to the "QUOTED" part ???

In worst case anything bad has to happen will happen. As Raju said " ... did not face any problem".

So don't keep on worrying about things which has a infinitesimal chance of happening. Go with the spirit of your handle. :)

A couple of quick PCC related questions for the resident experts:

1) At what stage during the CP process do we need the PCC?
2) Am I required to send my original passport while sending the PCC request to the consulate (@ Chicago). When I called them today they said a copy of my Passport would be fine but on this board I've read about poeple sending their original PP.

Let me know.

Thanks.

IFL

PS: This is the response from that my attorneys paralegal provided when I asked her about the PCC timing. The process described below conflicts with my understanding of the process??
----------------------------
"Copies of the police certificates (and all the other documents, birth,
marriage, etc.) need to be sent to the National Visa Center before it will
transfer your file to New Delhi for an appointment. The NVC request for
the copies of documents is a while down the road.

Next we get Form DS-230, Part I, which is the form for which you have
providing information. When NVC receives the signed DS-230, it conducts
security checks, When the security checks are complete NVC sends DS-230,
Part II to us and requests the documents copies."

1) Unless your attorney wants to see the PCC while sending P3, you need to get it before that. Approximately, while sending in your fees. If not, you should apply for it after you sent in the P3.
2) At some point you will need to send in your original PP for the PCC stamp on the PP. If your PP was not issued by a Indian consulate in US, you should get your PCC in a week , in which case send your original PP along with. If it was issued elsewhere, the consulate will need clearance from India which might take 30-45 days. In that case you can send the PP upon the consulate getting the clearance from India.l

{Since you belong to New Delhi consulate you would need the PCC
when you attend the interview}

2) Am I required to send my original passport while sending the PCC request to the consulate (@ Chicago). When I called them today they said a copy of my Passport would be fine but on this board I've read about poeple sending their original PP.

{This is your option. You can either send the original at the time of
application or send it later when you know that the Consulate is ready
to issue the PCC}

Let me know.

{Going by my personal experience and the experience of scores of
others, the first part is not true. The NVC expects only the DS-230
Part I as part of Packet 3. All the other documents are needed only
at the time of interview.

However, some Attorneys' offices would like to see all the documents
before they send back packet 3. This is just to make sure you are
ready with these documents. You can possibly convince them about your
preparations and ask them not to insist on actually seeing these doucuments}

Hi Raju,

Thanks for your elaborate reply. My attorney isn't interested in seeing the documents (PCC) in advance. I suspect she might not be aware of the new P3 and her understanding might be based on the old P3 which was much more elaborate than the new one.

Thanks for allaying my fears as I was caught unawares and thought that my documentation might not be ready when needed.

Regards.

If you have your family down there, It would not take much time to get a PCC even from Mumbai. But your PCC from copnsulate will be fine and you attorney has no clue.
