I am expecting a Feb interview at Chennai. But i have got an email
from my lawyer with this

The U.S. State Department has just announced that, effective January 2, 2002, all Indian immigrant visa applicants over the age of 16 must obtain Indian police certificates.

You must obtain: 1) a certificate from local police; and 2) a certificate from the Regional Passport Office. If the certificates come in sealed envelopes, you should open these envelopes. (DO NOT OPEN MEDICAL ENVELOPES, however.)

Please proceed with gathering the required certificates.

Dont know what this shit mean???????????????????????

This sounds like trouble :(

Here is what i got another one from my attorney.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
According to the announcement we have, all Indian immigrant visa applicants,
whether employment or family based, will require the two police certificates
I previously mentioned.

I interpret the announcement we have as requiring a certificate from a local
police station in India and a Regional Passport Office in India. I also
interpret the announcement as meaning that anyone who goes to a U.S.
consulate in India after January 2 to apply for an immigrant visa must
present the two certificates. But we do not have any confirmations on my
interpretation.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

All this bcoz of this idiot OBL.

I am waiting a reply from my lawyer regarding PCC, would update u guys//
I think a PCC from Consulate can substitute..

I am not obtaining a PCC for now

GCDespo and all
I am expecting a Feb interview and am not planning on obtaining a PCC since Chennai consulate has been repeatedly telling people thru email that it is not needed and if needed they will let us know. Just in case, i enquired the Washington D.c Indian Consulate General and the person said we shd get it in 30 -45 days time. Only thing is they want u to send your passport in original. I am a little bit concerned about doing this and hence am going to wait. I have also heard from the forum here that it is possible to get PCC from Washington D.C in 2 week\'s time. If the Jan interview guys (after CP)post to the forum saying that PCC is mandatory, then i will collect it from the consulate. Guys and gals, dont fret. Take it easy. Everything will be okay.

Thanks
Sujatha
