passport stamping/renewal issue

People,

I have a question on passport stamping ( I don't have my approval yet but I wanna have a good plan ready).

The question is: my passport will expire early next year (2005).
If I get the stamping on my current passport, and the passport expires, do I need to get stamping again on a renewed passport?

Also, what if the passport expires while I'm visiting my home country and I get the passport renewed but what about the stamping? Can I still reenter the U.S.?

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks.

<for indian passport>

valid visas/stamping will not expire with an passport. When they cancel the old passsport, they stamp a seal to that effect

I just did my stamping in Phoenix yesterday. You should be alright if you have a few months remaining on your passport. I sent mine to San Francisco about six months before it expired and it was renewed in about two weeks. As far as I know the stamp is needed till you get the physical green card. Once you have that, you should be fine. You need to send your card as well as your old passport when you apply for the new passport. I could be wrong though...this is to the best of my understanding

Good luck

Normally they ask for atleast 6-8 months validity in your current passport before stamping it. You can always apply for a new Passport if your old one will expire within 6 months. The consualte in San Francisco, can extend/add pages etc. to your current passport extending is duration.

Even if you don't get your plastic card and your stamped passport expires, all you do is carry it (attached) to your new passport. That is valid to enter the US.

Good luck with your approval.

My lawyer says they have no clue why INS is asking for a new medical exam for my daughter, so it looks like I have no choice.

By the way do you know any good INS certified doctors to do
medical exams in PHoenix? Someone that won't rip you off and
is good (preferrably female, since my daughter needs to get the
exam).

Thanks.
