passport stamping please help

Are the plastic cards ordered only after
passport stamping ?

The courtesy copy has reached my old
address in NJ and I am yet to see it.
as I am in Detroit now.
I spoke to my lawyer for the original.
He says it is with their accounts department
and will be sent to me after checking
if all my payments are made.

Am I wasting my time waiting for my lawyer?
It would be great help if someone lets me
know if I can do stamping with my courtesy
copy and how should I fix my appointment with
INS, Newark NJ. before planning a trip to NJ

1.yes. plastic cards will be ordered after pp stamping.

2.you can take either applicant copy/courtesy copy/lawyer\'s copy for PP stamping. ( In my case I told them I recieved lawyer\'s copy only, when they asked where is your applicant copy?. )

3.you can try for pp stamping at Detroit INS, where you live. Take two INS passport size photos, all EADs and Advance Paroles ( if any ), passport. On my 485 approval letter it is mentioned to visit Newark, NJ. Instead I visited San Francisco, CA INS got stamped on PP in the last month. I have seen couple of folks did the same thing, on this board. Tell them you are travelling out of town on short assignment. Carry proof of residence ( such as Driving license, utility bills, phone bills etc. ). Don\'t volunteer to show unwanted documents at the time of stamping.

INS Newark allows Courtsey Copy, I dont know Detroit allows that. You can go to any INS per others who have posted in this message ( like venkat).
