Passport stamping in NYC: ask for help

My wife got her appoval for I-485 petition (derivative petition on employment-based). She is going to get her passport stamped in New York city. We just moved from texas two months ago. Could anyone give us some advice about the stamping in NYC? How early need we arrive at the INS office? Need we take a ticket, or we directly go to the room indicated in the approval notice? How long does it usually take? Any advice will be highly appreciated.
