I stamped my passport after my I-485 approval in July'03, not yet recd my card. I will be visiting india on a business trip for 5 months. I have a few questions, please advice

1. Is it OK to travel to India for 5 months with only the stamped passport?
2. Do I need to carry any other document?
3. Do I need to let INS know of my travel?
4. Will there be an issue in INDIA (Mumbai) when I show just the stamped passport and I-485 approval without the actual card. Anybody with similar experience, please respond.

Any info in this matter will be highly appreciated since I plan on leaving next week

Any takers for these questions - Please help

If anybody can provide answers to the questions, it will be of great help since I have to leave for India next week

1. Is it OK to travel to India for 5 months with only the stamped passport?Yes, it is OK to travel just with the stamp.

2. Do I need to carry any other document? No but you can carry a copy of 485 approval.

3. Do I need to let INS know of my travel? No, not required.

4. Will there be an issue in INDIA (Mumbai) when I show just the stamped passport and I-485 approval without the actual card.
No, All airports are aware of the stamp as evidence of permanent residence in US.

It is ok to travel back with only a stamp on the passport. I did this
earlier this year.

Funny story; my stamp said it expired on 8/7/03 and I was
returning on the 8th of July. The immig officers in India asked
me why I was leaving on the date of the expiry. I had to explain
how the month appears in the first field of the date..
