Passport stamp at port of entry

When I returned from an India trip, at US immigration at SFO, I was asked "How long did you stay outside US"? I answered "6 weeks". Later I noticed that the ADMITTED stamp in my passport contains "~6 wks" against the 'until', which usually has the return date (in case of a visa). Also written against the 'class' is something that looks like 'ARC'.

Is this normal?

ARC stands for Alien Registration Card.
