Got my pass card on Monday and naturalization cert last Friday.

Passport has not arrived so far.

Passport hotline mentions it was mailed on Dec 2 or 3 by priority. Should receive around Dec 8.

Tracking shows the following -

The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on December 2, 2009 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later.

Went to the post office and they said what it means is that the package has not yet been scanned at source - it could happen if someone printed the label but never mailed it . And yes, they didnt have it even today dec 9.

Passport hotline gave the option of filing DS-64 for passport that got lost...

I told them I will wait till next Monday - if the status still looks the same, it means it has not been shipped at source and hence I need to reapply.

My wife's passport was mis-routed along the way, but the post office could catch this mistake and re-deliver it 3 days later. But in our case, they actually acknowledged their mistake in the on-line tracker.

I called the passport hotline late last week - they asked me to submit DS-86 form - non receipt of passport. I filled it and sent it - it has now reached state deptt.
Tracking number for the original passport now shows some movement = it is currently stuck in some city on way to my state. but they were supposed to have mailed it on Dec 2. Untill Dec 14 there were no updates.
Anyway that passport will be automatically cancelled now since I had sent the DS-86 form.

Anybody knows what will happen now and how long it will take for new passport to be issued?
