Passport renewal

I did my Indian Passport renewal by mail, one year before expiary date. Download the application form from website, send itto NY, by USPS (return receipt mail) with prepaid amount and got it back within one week. They returned the old passport with the new one.

from your feedback it looks like the renewal by mail is quick and efficient.

i have been to this counslate in ny with a freind.

the facility out there is small and there are too many people waiting in a small room

you have to submit in the morning and then they close for about 2-3 hours. we have to come back and pickit up.

a whole day is consumedn in the process

But then USCIS may find passport number/pages different then what I had submitted. What are they going to do with it? Any chances of RFE for it?

No problem
I got stamping in mu new passport. No question.
I think in the new passport , they write somewher the old passport number.
I carried both old and new passport. They stamped my new passport.

Passport renewal

Can passport be obtained by personally visiting NY Indian embassy ?

gcoptimistic, a new passport (after 10 years expiry) or renewal of passport can be applied for personally. However, you will not receive the new passport the same day. It may take a couple of days to process. You could have it couriered back to you or you can tell them that you will pick it up.

You can get the new passport the same day

if you visit NY Indian consulate between 9.00 - 12.00 in the morning. The new passport will be issued after 4.00 pm. We have done it twice in my family.
