Passport renewal question

I am planning to send my Passport for renewal to the Houston Office. One question I had is whether I need to "detach" my current I-94 card from the old passport and send the old passport or should I leave it on when I send it for renewal.
Also I assume its safe to send these by Fedex for renewal or would in person be recommended ?
 
Though the people at embassy should return your old passport and everything in it, it is safe to keep the current I-94 in your possession at safe place. My I 94 is not 'attached' to the passport, it is just placed inside.

Peple at embassy don't need your I94 to process the renewal.

If you do decide to leave it there, I would suggest to make a copy of both sides of it.

My passport is going to expire on Jan 2005, How many months before we have to apply for renewal. and what is the fee details.

and also i got GC stamped in my passport, if i get new passport what I have to do for GC? any idea?

this site has all the info needed...mailing is ok if u live outside houston...but if u r in houston..they accept applications only between 9-12 I think..and u have to collect it after 4:00pm after 7days..dont ask me why..those were the rules when i renewed my passport..

Hi,

I think the passort could be renewed ( considrered renewed instead of new passoort ) within a year after it expires. Howvere you can can not travel on the expired passport.

You should get the passport renewed within a month.

I could get my spouse and kids passport renewed within a week (no extra charges, you need to handle the situation with kids gloves). My wife does not belive that I did it but.......

I used fedex account to create the return envelope that is safe to use. You can use the site http://fedex.com/us to create the account ( and get discounted rates etc, but I like the safety most) you can create the return label and mailed whole package to them safely.
