1.If ordering passport from local postal offices, is there anyway to pay extra $ and get it within 2 weeks without booking a airplane ticket ahead of time? (I'll have to get visa after that, so cant be sure of my traveling date yet)

2.any one applying passport within NY recently? how long is it gonna take? some said apply in the city will be faster, true? how fast?

3.they'll take away natz cert when apply passport. will both be mailed back @ same time? if not, how long will be the delay? any pick-up service?

4.when apply passport, beside natz cert, what else I need to bring? I have my name changed during interview, therefore, all ID would appear with my old name. Problems?

1) There is an expedited and regular processing at PO. Expedited is supposed to take within 3 weeks.
If you need before that you can apply in person at a passport facility. Full details at
http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/processing/processing_1740.html

2) Do not know

3) Naturalization certificate will be mailed separately. First passport then certificate, not sure the gap.

4) Naturalization certificate, passport photos, application form, check/money order. Post office may ask for ID like driver license, but they did not ask for mine. Certificate has everything - DOB, height, full name, photo, signature.

thanks!
however, I'm not quite sure what to bring for my proof of traveling when apply in a passport facility, since without a passport I cant get visa & without visa it's hard to decide flight booking date.

I applied for a passport in early Nov and my wfie in late Dec.

We paid for the expedite service (but not the overnight shipping) and in both cases, we had our passports in our hands within 9 calendar days.

In my case, the password and naturalization certificate were in the same envelope.

In my wife's case, they were mailed separately, but they both arrived on the same day.

Of course, other areas of the country may be different. If it's relevant, we live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex.

you need to have ticket booked, and have itinerary ready if you go to pp facility. why is it difficult to decide flight booking date without visa? i do not understand that. for 1-2 days passport turnaround you do need travel plan tickets. Otherwise just get a expedite/overnight service

You can expedite a passport at a post office without showing any proof of travel - all you have to state on the form is your intended travel date. The only time you need actual proof (e.g. ticket or itinerary) is when you want the same-day service through one of the 12 regional passport offices.

If you pay extra 60$, you can expediate your passport. No travel date or any documentation needed (As you could be driving to Mexico/Canada where they now ask for passport, where will you get tickets for a driving trip?)

They mail those separately. Mine came about a 10-12 days later getting me scared. But it made it.

Photo ID and in your case, if you changed name, name change order that you should have received alobng with the oath (or similar court signed document)

Hope that helps
