Passport Questions

Hey Guys-

I am going in for my oath on Wednesday. A couple of quick questions.

1) I need to travel on Feb 14 to Montreal. Has anyone had any experience with the passport agency in Boston? Are they fast and can process a passport within a day or two?

2) After you get your naturalization certificate, do they still conduct a name check and other background checks when you submit your application to the passport office (meaning, is there a chance there may be delays due to name check, etc). Have others encountered any issues going from naturailzed status to getting a passport?

Thanks in advance

If you have an appointment and can furnish proof of your travel, you can normally get your passport on the same day at any U.S Passport Agency.

Once you take your oath, you are a US Citizen, and you are treated just like any American applying for a passport. There are normally no name checks for passport issuance.

I don't think you need a US passport to travel to Canada and come back. Your US citizenship certificate may suffice.

you can use your cert of naturalization to go to canada

or schedule an appointment to your regional office with your airticket and apply your passport

Hotline

So, interestingly enough, I called yesterday to make an appointment at the passport office. It is easy enough, they want hotel reservations, etc. They commit to 3 day business turnaround and sometimes just one day (if the need warrants it). I asked the lady on the phone, what exactly they "do" when we submit for a passport? Is the time spent mostly on the actual printing? She said, we do a "name check" and we also do a check to make sure you do not owe any "alimony".

The other person's post about doing a background check on a 2 month baby made me wonder if they have added additional checks at the passport delivery layer (would not surprise me). Or perhaps, the support person on the phone just made it up to get me off the phone...

Let me know if you have any details. I will keep you guys posted on my experience.
