Passport Q

please advice me on this:
while I was in removal proceedings they took my passport and never gave it back to me. I asked to get it back but the IO said after I get my GC I can take my passport. I got my GC but didn't ask to get the passport back. I never had travel since I got my GC. Should I file form G-884 and get the passport back ( I don't know how long it takes also my file will be moving because I submitted my N400)? or just go to the interview without my passport ( how can I prove that I never travelled outside the US?)?

BTW: I can't get a passport from the embassy because I don't even have a copy of the passport, neglegence on my part but I though I wouldn't need it.

Any help will be appreciated.

I am not sure why they took your passport and didn't take it back. I am not sure if at the interview they perhaps have attached your old passport in your file, who knows. In any case your embassy should have procedures to get you a brand new passport once you can demostrate your citizenship (birth certificate from your country of origin etc). I mean if your passport has been lost, most countries have procedures to get you a new one based in other resources provided by you. About to how to demostrate that you haven't travel outside the country (if the question came an issue) you can call the CBP border control office and see if there is a way to get records of your entry in the US. I really don't know , you can check this https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/de...-travel-in-and-out-of-the-united-states,-foia

Go without the passport and explain what happened. You won't have a problem. Before, during or after the interview they will search their system for evidence of you entering or exiting the US since GC approval, and if they don't find anything they will accept your word that you didn't travel abroad.

Meanwhile, you should still try to get back the passport. It is the property of your country's govt, and the US govt has no right to keep it permanently. Talk to your country's embassy for assistance on getting it back from the US govt... unless you don't care about it anymore because you'll have a US passport soon.

They took the passport, in case I had been ordered removed they can contact my embassy to arrange the travel documents. That what they told me.
I went to the embassy with my B/C. But they needed a copy of my old passport, which I don't have. They are waiting for the OK from my country ( since B/C doesn't have photo to prove it belongs to me).

The passport is already expired and old version, now they have one looks like the American passport, so I will need a new one anyway. I will do my best to get the one the USCIS has. But since my file will be moving from the service center to the local office for the citizenship interview, how can I know the exact location of the passport?
If I can't get it back I will go to the interview w/o it.
