Passport Procedure

Thank you all again. I am a citizen now and the day after the ceremony i mailed my application to renounce my old citizenship (I do not believe in dual citizenship and encourage all to do the same) and went to the passport office.

I went on the http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/first/first_829.html site and filled out the application online. You will need your Certificate, DL, and some dough :)

To find your local agency: http://iafdb.travel.state.gov/

The Certificate of Naturalization was taken away from me and will be mailed together with the application to the "New Orleans Passport Center" Imagine the horror when i saw the clerk nonchallantly apply the sticky label. Imagine the relief when she pointed out that botttom reads Pittsburgh, and that all applications are rerouted there with a routine processing time of 12 weeks.

Another sweet thing is that they are mailing our Certificates via REGULAR MAIL, but no worries, "we never lost one before, but you may be the first one". Anyway the lady was kind enough to make me some "illegal" copies before mailing it.

Fee is $30 for the office and $64 (if i remember correctly) on a check addressed to the Department of State.

To check status of application: https://passportstatus.state.gov/opss/OPSS_Status_i.asp

Thank you all, awesome people great forum
