I had posted this question previously but only got few response.
For all of you who had applied a US passport please share your experience.

I mailed my application September 27 next day right after I received my certificate, and I applied using regular service since our trip is not scheduled until this coming December. As of today my status hasn’t change yet, “ it says it has not received” when I call the 1877 # of the passport office, they sound like the people in USCIS 1800#, they can only give info what you already know in the online tracking.

What to do now? I already thought of re-applying a certificate but it will take sometime a year at least ! And I need a passport by the end of the year.Is it pretty usual to wait 3 weeks and you status says it has not rceived yet?????

Just worried and nervous the same time so any info would be great!

Thanks,

abs

i am in the similar situation (kind of).

I applied the passport on last saturday. USPS staff suggested me not to use the 2 ways overnight delivery. She suggested me to use one-way overnight delivery (for return) because USPS would not promise to delivery the overnight package until Tue if it is shipped on the weekend.

She told me they would be sending the application via priroty mail thou.

I checked online status yesterday and today, they could not find my info. In fact, I sent a priority mail package to my friend in NYC and she received yesterday.

I just hope my application form and the cert would be there sometime this week. I should not have listened to her for 1 way overnight delivery. I should just use 2-ways. sigh :(

did you apply regular service or expedite?
Mine been mailed 3 weeks ago still not showing in online status

It's not uncommon for people to wait 4 to 6 weeks for passports thru' regular service. I got my passport with an expedited service and 2-way overnight mail in exactly 5 business days.

Did you at least send it thru' a certified mail or with a delivery confirmation? If yes, you can at least track on the www.usps.gov.

If it was just a regular mail, with no tracking....then pray hard that it makes it there and doesn't get lost.

i did not know you could request for a different method to send the application form from USPS besides of regular or overnight delivery.

anyway, i should have done the 2-ways as i mentioned, but i just have to cross my fingers that they recieve the application sometime this week.

I do not understand when you say I applied on my own. I thought you can apply either at Post office or passport facility. May be I missing some thing that you can apply directly.

I agree with the sg_orl that you should have mailed your application that you can track. My experience with 1-800 number of passport facility was very good. They asked info on SSN, birthdate and A# and were able to tell me what is hapening with my application.

How did you mail the payment?
What happened your check? Was it cashed? Can you go to your bank and see what is going on?

I think that should answer some of your questions. If your checks are still not cashed, Passport facility CANNOT track your application, keep calling them to see if they received. On another note, go to the Post Office from where you mailed the application and file a complaint.

I will give info on my parents case mailing to Chicago Lock Box -
I sent my parent file to Chicago Lock Box with tracking on Priorty Mail.
The tracking said it "Arrived at the Postal Unit". I was calling USPS 1-800 number and the person who answered said that it is lying at the Post Office and USCIS will collect it. Same reply for few days. Then I called and asked them how the lock box works. The way lock box works is, USPS does NOT deliver the mail. USCIS goes to the Post Office (twice day as I was been told later by the Post Office person in Chicago) to collect the mail. Individual tracking numbers does not show as DELIVERED. All the packets that come in to the Lock Box ( are assigned one tracking number and all the individual mails tracking numbers on put in one sheet . If you open a case if the 1-800 number with USPS then they can track and see whether your individual tracking number made in to the sheeet which may zillion tracking numbers. Hope it helps for people who send mails with tracking to any lock box.

I later checked this info with a guy at a local post office (who CONFIRMED that a mortageg center where I live has same kind of lock box and that is how they track application. One sheet with all the indivdual tracking numbers on it).

Hope this helps. Thanks

Thanks Simidude!

Simidude,

thanks for your reply. I am sorry I did not made my self clear. I did apply my passport thru POST OFFICE, regular processing. Anyway, it was mailed the 27th of September and the Priority tracking number says it was deliver in Philedelphia PA on October 03, i think that is thier banking facility or something like that. But until today, my file/information is not yet located in the system. Its been atleast 15 business day now. Just getting worried right now.

Thanks again!

I applied my passport last Friday (10/14) using expedited service with two way express mail. There is nothing shown on the online status as of this afternoon.
I then called the 800# and they said they received my application and started working on it today. And the lady said they will update the status on the online system soon. So seems like they need to have someone update the status even though they might already receive your application a couple days earlier.

I don't have any urgent travel plan, but just feeling not good to mail my Naturalization Certificate without any tracking info...so i paid extra and that gave me additional peace of mind

If you have the return paid tracking number....you can track on that. Normally expedited applications are processed within a week.

Do not worry - Relax

I think you should not worry too much about it.
You did not say anything abt ur paymenst being cashed. I mean ur opersonal check etc. in your reply.

Keep calling the passport facility and check with them. As I said, ask them to look for it by filing a complaint giving the facts. You may just receive ur passport one fine morning and everything will be OK

Let me know if u need more info
Thanks and relax
