Passport Name confusion

I am planning to apply for a visitors visa for my mom. I paid the fee at HDFC bank today and am going to look for an appt date in the next two days. I noticed while paying the fee that my mother's entire name is on the "given name" line. I am in a bit of hurry to get my mother to US. Would people suggest that I work on getting the name corrected on the passport or go with what I have? We are going to Chennai consulate.

if you have not taken the appointment yet you will find out that the dates are probably 4-5 months later giving you plenty time to get the correction

Unfortunately it's not that simple for me. I have to come back to US soon and if I apply for a correction here in Hyd., my (recently widowed) mother will have to chase down the passport office sharks to return her passport in time. I also heard from some relative that due to shortage of passport books, a simple thing like passport renewal is taking > 3 months. I am thinking of keeping the name as is.
