Passport for Kids - What about the GC?

Guys,

I know that our GC would be taken when we do oath and get the nat. certificate. We can use this certificate to get passport for ourselves and kids. When will the kids' GC taken? Do we need to hand it over at the PO or do we need to send it along with the passport application form OR send it to USCIS?
 
Kids' GC is required to apply for passport if US citizenship is derived from naturalized parents. GC will be returned along with kids' passports. You can keep the GC as a souvenir, no need to return to USCIS.

if kids apply for cetitficate of citizenship (N600), will USCIS take away their GC?
 
One doesn't send the GC when applying for N600 certificate of citizenship. Chances are one can keep the GC. Original GC needs to be sent for kid's passport application but will be returned, probably damaged with staples, but at that point there is no longer any use for the GC anyway.

In case of emergency when you can not find your passport and nat cert, can one use GC for I-9 etc? It is a serious matter for a PR to pretend to be a citizen but is there a law to punish a citizen pretending to be a PR?
 
WBH, the GC is no longer valid so you would be using invalid document. Can you renounce your US citizenship and still use US passport? No.

In case of I-9, the person whom you show yoru GC to does not know
whether it is valid or not. You can also use it to buy alcohol beverages, tobacco etc On all these oocassions they don't verify validity of yoir
GC. Its face value is good enough

If you are driving 90 mph in 55 mph zone but there are no cops with radar, are you breaking the law? The cops don't know.

That the law was not enforced in these situations does not change the fact you would be breaking the law.

That is why I said a GC is suseful for emergecy and one should only use it for emergency when you suddenly lose all other papers.

I think we shouldn't do this even in emergency. USCIS will update the status to CITIZEN once one becomes a citizen and GC has not validity. I think it will be a serious crime to use GC when it is not valid.

We should try to use alternative ways in emergency.

Well what happened to the case a poster telling us his youngest brother lost all papers and did not kwnow ehre to start? In that thread, I said does it mean if one person lost all ID paers his only consequencse is to starve to death. Another poster gave me a defnite answer "Yes". So having one more ID even expired and invalid, may save your life in future

He should have taken copies of all his valid documents (backup). I would make copies of valid documents rather than using invalid documents to convince the authorities/third parties.
