Passport Expiring while 485 Pending

1) My passport is expiring in JAN 2005 and my 485 is pending. I have heard that its not a problem and we don't have to send the new passport copies to INS . Is this information correct ?

2) I have also heard that if you go to Indian Embassy in NY for the passport rewewal, they send the passport to india for the renewal. Does any body have any input on this matter?.

--- correct, just keep both passports together.

---------- no idea about this one, but my guess would be that they verfy from India not send the whole passport, as long as you get it in time what does it matter.

I am in the same situation and it seems quite strange that one wouldn't need to send the new passport information. Just like with the address, if it changes, one needs to inform. Can someone please please say more about passort expiring while I-485 pending. It would be so appreciated
