Hi,
My landing papers should hopefully arrive sometime this year.
My passport expires in mid-2005 and i will renew it from my country of citizenship.
I read on another post, that the period of residence is 5 years.
In my case, given the expiry date on the passport, will the duration of permanent residence be different?
Also, how long does it take to get the PR card?

You will have to land before the expiration of your passport, if your medical one year anniversary is beyond the expiration of your passport. Your immigration visa (in your passport) will be valid for one year from the date you took medical exam or till the expiration of your passport.

The PR card is valid for 5 years. Expiration of your PR card doesn't necessarily mean loss of PR status. You can easily apply for another one before the expiration date.

It takes about a month or so to receive the PR card after landing.

Thank you clearsky. so medical again after passport renewal?

Hi clearsky,
Thank you for the response.
Assuming , i land in Canada sometime this year and my medical examination - 1 yr span is not over yet.I intend to stay there permanently once I land there.
Does this mean, that after I renew the passport, I have to go in for a fresh medical examination?
Thanks again.

Once you enter Canada .....you don't need to take medical exams..whether you change your passport or renew your passport......

If you have not entered Canada before your medical exams expire..which would be of 1 year duration..and that would be the date before which you need to enter Canada ..you will have to apply again for immigration to Canada and ofcourse will have to take another medical exams..
