Passport exipiration question

Hello all,

I received change of status from F1 to H1 while in the US. I plan to visit India sometime in 11/2004 for stamping. My passport expires on 06/2005. What are my options?

1. Do I have to apply for passport renewal before going to the embassy for stamping. If so, are they going to renew the passport now (I still have about 10 months before the passport expires?

2. Can I go for stamping in 11/2004 with the passport that expires on 06/2005?

the passport can be renewed by Indian Consulate if within 12 months to expiry.

It is better to get a new apassport and get stampo in that, else you will have to keep both passports after the expiry of the old one.
The visa stamping requirement is that the passport be valid beyond six mothns of the travel date, whhich is fine inur case. But at POE the officer might give u a I-94 till passport expiry requiring u to file and extension petiotion once u reenter
 
thank you.. can u throw some light on the passport renewal procedure? I live in FL, where do I need to mail the passport. What other material has to accompany the passport for a renewal and how long does the procedure take?

in the docs needed section i see:
iii) Copy of Green Card (both sides, enlarged clear copy) or Employment Authorization card (clear enlarged copy) or legal/ visa status such as HIB etc

I am on H1 visa and have applied for a transfer. I have not received approval for transfer yet but I do have the approval from the previous company that I worked. Can i submit this or do i need to wait for my transfer to take place?
 
submit the approval and the recipt for the new one.

Just one note apparently passport renewal is considered same as new passsport so foillow all the advice and requirements and fee for new passport
