Hello:

When applying for OCI:

-- Q's # 8 in Part A asks for Passport #. Is that my old Indian passport or new US one?

-- Q21 asks for Address of Employer. I have my own S corporation. I was wondering if I should write self-employed or put my Corporation name.

- Q22 asks for relative names in India. Is it enough to mention just one name -- or should all be listed?

-- Is a copy of US passport enough? Or should Nat Cert copy be sent too??

-- what all pages of Indian and US Passport need to be photocopied and sent? My friend says photocopy and send all pages but that looks ridiculous.

-- Should I send photocopies of only my most recent Indian passport or even older cancelled ones.

-- Cant get light colored background photograph. Will a white background do?

-- DOes the photo have to be 35 cm squared or a standard US 2 inch squared copy will do?

-- Plan to send the documents by USPS priority mail. OK?

Most of these Question appear silly -- but just wanna be sure.:)

Thanks

Yes, you are right - they do appear silly. Hehe.. just kidding :)

Many of the answers can be found on the consulate's website. I'll take a stab at some of them:

For item 8, it's the US Passport they are concened with details of.

For passport photocopies, you don't need to send any blank pages or visa pages (even if there are visas). Just the first 2-3 and last 2-3 pages in case of Indian passport and the first 2 pages for US passport.

Standard US passport photos seem to have worked well for most people on here... on whatever background they are. Though, some people seem to have used their own backgrounds (colored cloth) or customized the photo size.

Yes, you can send by Priority mail. I'll recommend using an extra service with it, that also gives you a tracking number.

The above is what I believe, but please do read the website for your particular consulate location to help you assemble your OCI application.

All the best.

You can also send in your Indian birth certificate in place of your Indian passport if your birthdate falls within:

Any person born in India on or after 26 January 1950 but prior to the commencement of the 1986 Act on 1 July 1987 was a citizen of India by birth.

The birth certificate in this case is sufficient to establish your eligibilty to become a citizen of India.
