Passport/Background or Credit Checks question

My passport recently expired, and I'm due to reapply for a new one, but I've changed my name (not via N-400, unsure if it matters).

Will the new passport show my former name? I'm hoping it doesn't, it just puts people into a state of confusion when they see it and opens you up to extensive questioning, when the answer could be as simple as "I didn't like my name".

I'd like to get everything in sync. Drivers license & SS card are the same. Especially with this upcoming "Real ID" - it will be a much easier process having my passport updated. Will the Real ID show the former name?

Also, do name changes usually show up in basically all background/credit checks? If so, how long does it normally take? Besides last name changes from marriage, I think any first name change, or a completely different name is going to bring up a red flag.

I assume on an FBI background check it would show up, but what about a regular run-of-the-mill background check that can only be used by professionals in that industry? Something like Accurint or Choicepoint, not a pay $19.95 background check like Intelius (which someone can be removed themselves from).
