Passport Application for Child under 18 (over 14)

Is it possible to apply for passports of both the newly naturalized parents and their child (under 18) at the same time? (Child will be claiming citizenship through naturalization of both parents). Passport Application requires both parents' naturalization certificates.

Since parents are required to submit their naturalization certificates with their applications, they cannot also be included in the child's application. Has anyone gone through this situation or has comments?

YES, It is possible to apply for the passport at the same time.
You also need to send the following documents with your child's passport application:

- Your marriage certificate (original)
- Child's Green Card (original)
- Child's birth certificate (original in english) - they do not accept notarized copies.
- proof that child is living with you (I would send school report)

Tell the post office people that you need to attach these documents with this application. Most of the post offices know this but just in case they don't know.

They return your original papers with the passport but make copies for your record.

And don't forget to apply for Child's certificate of citizenship. You need to file N-600 withyour local USCIS office.

Good luck and congratulations!!!

Thank you hm11.

Perhaps the following scenario will clarify my question:

"My wife and I, immediately upon receipt of our Naturalization Certificates, march to the Post Office with our child and fill out our DS-11's. My wife and I include our certificates with the application.

We cannot now include these certificates with our child's application. We do not yet have a Certificate of Citizenship. We do have all the other documents you listed.

We cannot include a copy of Naturalization Certificates. (I understand copying these certificates is forbidden)."

Will the Post Office clerk accept the child's application on the basis of having only seen its parents' certificates?

YES, KEEP YOUR DS-11'S READY IF YOU NEED TO APPLY SAME DAY.

We cannot now include these certificates with our child's application. We do not yet have a Certificate of Citizenship. We do have all the other documents you listed.

SUBMITT THE APPLICATION TOGETHER AS ONE PACKAGE OR WAIT FOR YOUR PASSPORT TO COME (WHICH COMES IN 3 WEEKS) AND THEN APPLY FOR YOUR CHILD'S PASSPORT.

We cannot include a copy of Naturalization Certificates. (I understand copying these certificates is forbidden)."

YES, YOU CAN NOT MAKE COPIES OF CERTIFICATE OF CITIZENSHIP BUT WRITE DOWN THE DATE AND NUMBER OF THESE CERTIFICATES IN YOUR DIARY.

Will the Post Office clerk accept the child's application on the basis of having only seen its parents' certificates?

THEY SHOULD ACCEPT THE APPLICATION FOR YOUR CHILD BECAUSE THE CHILDRENS BECOME CITIZENS ON THE DAY PARENTS BECOME CITIZENS OF US.
IN MY OATH CEREMONY THEY ASKED CHILDRENS OF NATURLIZED PARENTS TO ALSO RAISE HANDS FOR OATH.

AND REMEMBER APPLY FOR CERTIFICATE OF CITIZENSHIP FOR YOUR CHILD BY SUBMITTING N-600

I see that the the box for "father's name" and "mother's name" is rather small (#characters). Is there way to overcome that?
I have seen the same problem with US Govt. official forms too. Thanks on advance.

All three applications may be submitted at the same time. To prevent the three applications from being separated, the applications should all be submitted in the same envelope and a letter should be included stating that the three need to be processed together because of the citizenship documentation.

Thank you,

QUESTION: Passport Application requires both parents' naturalization certificates. Is it possible to apply for passports of both the newly naturalized parents and their child (under 18) at the same time? (Child sill be claiming citizrnship through naturalization of both parents).

Since parents are required to submit their naturalization certificates with their application, they cannot also be included in the childs application. Is there another way?

Thank you

The latest forms available on the official site does not have this problem. They use smaller font for these boxes.

Additionally the following clarification from NPIC:

>You can use an additional sheet of paper to write you Father's and Mothers name and attach it to the application if it does not fit into the space provided.

>Thank you. 053

>> The box size for Father's name and Mother's name is too small for my details. How to solve that problem?
