Passport application and alien registration number

I am applying for my US passport and in one section it request the Alien reg. number if applicable. Question is do we have to fill that in? I am assuming that this number will forever follow us naturalized citizens. If we dont fill it in are there consequences? I figure it is best to include it in the application rather than have them "look" for the info and hence delay the whole proceedure. any thoughts?
Thanks

I put my GC number there. I figured that if they are asking for an A#, then they wanted us naturalized citizens to put it there - why else would they bother asking.

Yes, this issue has been debated in the past. Even if you "forget" to write your A# it is still in your naturalization certificate. Department of State probably needs to verify your citizenship status with USCIS.

My husband did not write it on the passport application, he got his his passport without any issues. I applied 2 days back and I also did not write it. Anyway, it is there in the naturalization certificate.

Surely there is no downside to including it anyway? Who cares?

Then there is zero chance that omitting it would cause a delay anyway.

The reality is that there remains a small but finite difference between US-born citizens and naturalized citizens. If we need to continue to use our A-numbers from time to time, that's fine by me.

The number does not appear on the passport.

I agree with rwsh...there is a small difference between the two. Check out the forms (and the language contained in them) to get security clearances and you'll notice the difference.

So you don't wanna have anything to do with your a# that once you were holding so closely, the the one that made you feel you are free, the one that you couldn't do anything without??:D :D

The name of the country you were born will be right by you picture. It Could mean you had to have a green card to get here. Could it??

A US Passport is a US Passport is a US Passport is a US Passport. Enjoy you new freedom. Play by the rule and we will all be happy.;)
