pasport-new/renewal

My passport will be expiring in mid-may.
I guess for long i was reading instruction for new passport.
i guess what i need is renewal of passport.
Anybody has done renewal........recently.
i guess my question is for INDIAN citizens only.
I just saw on indian consulate site it is not asking for any documents other than leagal status proof.

You got to fill the new passport application in lieu of an expired/expiring passport. I just did it.
