Parents on AOS - Return Airline ticket, a Waste?

I know some of you are sponsoring parents & adjusting their status, when parents are already in the U.S. on visitor visa. If the parent(s) are from India, what are you planning to do with the return ticket, that your parents will no longer be able to travel on?

I doesn't seem like a good idea to waste the return ticket, especially when these cost so much. I called the airline (Lufthansa) and not getting much help, when I'm not able to provide a new return ticket date. Any one in a similar position? What did you do / plan to do regardless of the Airline?

Any suggestions / input are welcome!

My parents have a 1yr roundtrip ticket. I hope their AOS is complete by that end date.

Well, if it's not, I guess it will go waste or may be if we loose confidence in USCIS timelines may be we'll apply for AP and use that tix to make a short trip back home.

Good idea, NYH. (I abbreviated you ;) )

My Mom came on a 6 month ticket on visitor visa. That's why I'm having a problem now. The airline said I have to pay a substantial penalty for changing the ticket and for extending its validity. But the catch is, they want me to give them a date for return travel. And I'm in the same dilemma as you are.. i.e. uncertain when the AOS process would be over. I'm almost certain that it won't be over in 6 months, so what's left is the AP option. Then again, I don't know how long one can stay abroad on AP?

Have you seen any info on USCIS (or anywhere else) limiting the period of stay on AP? If you have, please let me know.

Thanks.

I have not seen any official info on how long one can stay abroad on AP. However one lawyer's advice was not to excced it more than 6 months. Usually, people limit it to a couple of months.

Can anyone else provide more information? Thanks.
