Parents green card - marriage certificate issues

Hi,

I am US citizen and trying to apply for my parents green card who are living in India. The I-130 for both has been approved.

DS-260
All the documents on my mom's DS-260 have been accepted except for the marriage affidavit. My parents were married back in the 70's in a traditional marriage and they do not have a marriage certificate so they got an Indian court issued marriage affidavit. This document has been rejected for my mom's application. However, the same marriage affidavit attached to my dad's application has been accepted and his interview has been scheduled by NVC.

We are not getting any response from NVC as to why the marriage affidavit on my mother's application has been rejected but the same document is accepted on my father's DS-260. Any information/suggestion on this scenario will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

Sorry I don't have an answer for you but I have the exact same issue you describe, my dad is scheduled for interview and the same marriage certificate used for my dad was rejected for my mom. The fact that NVC would rather leave us without any clue as to why that is instead of just telling us the reason for the rejection is incomprehensible!

Hopefully someone has an idea and can help us!

Thanks!

PS: I'm from France

Hi @star-mailer , I am also from India and planning to apply for my parents green card. They also got married traditionally in 1975 and didn't register their marriage. They are trying to register now but the local registrar is not helping. I have my parents marriage affidavits from close relatives and my school record from the early school (1st grade) showing my parents names and my place of birth and date of birth and school admission date along with my late registered birth certificate. Can I proceed to apply with these documents? Do I need to submit any additional documents as far as my parents marriage is concerned? I can't even get the non availability of marriage certificate from local marriage registrar.
