Sorry I did not see the post till now. I am not a regular here now as I once used to be. Anyway...
I did not call NCS. I went to local DO and showed the form my wife received and asked why mine did not move. They checked in the system and said that it was going through some process and can take few more days. 4 more weeks after that I got oath letter but it came from NCS and not the DO. I was very surprised because local DO's do the oath(ing) stuff but I was wrong. NCS can do scheduling of oath too and they do take part in the local DO's jobs in arranging oaths.
Anycase my impression was that the idiot arse sitting on my file moved his a$$ when I went to ask at local DO. Whether you go in person or call, they usually have a note put up in the computer saying that there was an inquiry on the application from the applicant. It could be one reason my oath ceremony went ahead immediately.
Second reason was that the ladies usually have less problems to deal with - like not so many parking or traffic tickets, less possibility to take part as a terrorist, less exposed to society than males (thus warranting less info) etc and their files move quicker. Though I enclosed the traffic ticket given to me in 1995, this arse officer asked for copy again! So several things come into this while they send the oath letters.
And finally, let me tell you that these INS guys have the least respect for allowing wife and husband together for the same ceremony. They issue oath letters to whoever comes cleared first.
Anyway, you can go to oath for your wife and also ask the people there. I tried to ask but the line was long. So I waited till the oath was over and tried to put the question to them at the very end. They answered the same as the DO lady who personally checked it on the computer in her office.
In summary, I cannot give a definite answer. It could be one hit I had with DO lady or the collective hits of all the things I did. My philosophy was to throw stones in all directions and luckily one hit. Did it? I never know. It may be that they did it in their own manner and I am assuming one stone hit. Who knows? And hey I do not care less now because it was an year ago.
But boy, with the tesion I had, my chicken pox came back as Shingles and I was down with it for more than 3 weeks. No kidding.
Good luck. BTW if you need to talk to me again, please post and also email at
dr_taz_98@yahoo.com. Please remember that turn around could be as long as two days. Sorry about that.
