Thank you.

To apply for citizenship, they ask for 5 years of stay as PR. From what date does this count start ? (485 approval ? Card Approval ? Welcome Letter ?

I-485 RD:04/04/02 = Receipt Date

AR11:11/02 = Filed the AR11 change of address form

FP1:08/03 = First fingerprinting notice, issued by TSC.

FP2:11/04 = Second Fingerprint Notice issued by Miami.

I-485 TD to Miami:05/04 = transfer date to the Miami local office for an interview. This is the date TSC supposedly decided to send my case., not sure if this is when they actually mailed it, since it took quite a while to arrive. See next step for more details

RD in Miami: 08/04 = The receipt date that my I-485 file physically arrived in Miami from TSC. Quite a while after the TD.

ID:11/04 = "Interview date". I was one of the unfortunate few to get an interview at the local office.

I-485 AD:29/11/04 = "Approval Date". Happened on the same day as my interview date.

PPS:29/11/04 = "Passport Stamp". The date I got the stamp in my passport. Also was the same date as my interview.

I-181 Welcome Notice:06/12/04 = After the approval they sent me 6 Welcome to the USA letters. This is the date of the first one. The I-181 is a form that creates a new alien record in thier files, and the Welcome Notice is a recipt for this creation. Not everyone seems to get this letter for some reason.

CO:10/12/04 = "Card Ordered" Using the case number on the Welcome notice, I was notified that they had ordered a card for me.

CM:14/12/04 = "Card Mailed" Also using the same number from the Welcome Notice, notified me that the card had been mailed.

CR:17/12/04 = "Card Received". Actually got the physical card in my hand.

I-90 RD: 12/04 = My wife's card showed up with the incorrect birthdate. Had to file an I-90 to get a new one.

I-90 FP: 01/05 = The date her fingerprints were taken for the I-90.

Waiting for a corrected card. They told her it will take a year.

Thank you so much....so I-181 form is something they use for their internal processing and we only get welcome notice and even if we dont get that notice doesnt mean that they didnt process form I-181...right?

yes, as far as I know, this is the way it is. Wether you got a welcome notice or not, they still create a new alien record for you using the I-181.

Also I suggest you remove the I-90 from your signature, until (and only if) you need to file one. Only the extremely unlucky few people need to file this. I hope you are not one of the people who gets a card with the wrong info on it, so I would not expect for it to happen if I were you. It makes no sense to have it on your signature, unless, you've already filed it, since its not part of the normal process.

I updated my signatures and hopefully they will send the card with right information. Thank you
