Hi! I am new to this forum, and thanks to all for
building this amazing knowledge-bank on the Canadian Immigration issue!
Like many other in this forum, I plan to land as
a PR in Canada soon, and want to come back in
a few days (up to a week) to US to wrap up the
present assignments. The aim of course is to move
to Canada eventually, but that may take up to a
year.
I plan to enter Canada by road real soon, and my question is about whether to go by my own car
(which I would prefer), or to rent one.
I certainly do NOT want to import my car to Canada for my first landing. Am I bound to fill
out Vehicle import form -- form 1, for my car
if I want to cross border on it? Can I not just
list it as "Goods to follow" and bring it back to
US after my landing trip to Canada? Would there
be a problem while getting back to US? What do
I do if the Canadian Immigration officer insists
that I import it in the middle of my landing
process? Can I turn back at that stage just to park
the car, and again go to the border with a rented one? Or would you suggest that I avoid all these
by renting one to begin with -- or am I unnecessarily worried about it? I would appreciate
if some of you can help me out making my decesion.
Secondly, how precise the list of "Goods to follow"
should be? For example, if I could go and come back with my car, declaring it as a "good to follow", and decide to sell it of before my next
landing on a more permanent basis, would it cause a problem. Of course, same can be said about lots
of other items, which you are not sure what to do with one year in advance. Please suggest!
I am sorry, if I brought up a topic that was discussed earlier, but I have less time to make a decision, and I will be grateful if you don't mind repeating your earlier comments on these issues.
