Hey everyone!

First time posting here. I have overstayed my f1 visa and now that visa is expired and has been for 2 years. I have a social security number and my passport from my country is still valid until next year. I recently applied for a state id. I went to the dmv, showed them my passport and my bank statement my phone bill and my ssn card. Then the guy in charge asked for a visa. Since it is a foreign passport, he said i need to show my visa. I had my visa attached to my old passport so i didnt have to bring it.

I really need a state id..or better a driver's license. I am really desperate. I dont know what to do. I am in Illinois, 23 years old

What do you mean when you say you "overstayed your visa"? F1 status is determined by the I-20. Did you graduate and no longer have a valid I-20? To prove status for the driver's license, you need to show a passport + your I-94 + your I-20. The "visa" is irrelevant.
