Just want to share this info to folks as there is lot of concerned people on this issue.
My friend's mom visted 4 times to US. On the first two visits , she overstayed I-94 date. Never applied for I-539 extension. They allowed her with no problem on 2nd and 3rd visits. On 4th visit (in 2004) they made an issue of past overstays. (What triggered this extra scrutiny on 4th visit is not clear. But, it appears she did not carry the US address where she would be staying with her. So her I-94/customs form is incomplete as there is no forwarding address). They called her son (she was carrying his cell#) and asked for address and some other inquiries. The officer went to his supervisor (at ATL airport) and apparaently pulled all her history and made big fuss previous overstays and ever threaned to send her right back. Finally , they have allowed her for 6 months of stay , but they have cancelled her 10 year multiple-entry VISA in the passport.
This is at ATL airport. This is completely arbitrary. Allowed earlier two times without any problem, but created problems on 4th visit. It depends a lot on the person in question.
Guys, please post any past overstay re-entry stories to share.
