My Mom and Dad are about to get their Greencards, sponsored by me (US citizen). All his life my dad has stayed in India and has worked as an Engineer in Merchant Navy in a Hong Kong based company, which entails him to stay on the ship for some months and then come home for a few months. Once he gets his green card, if he chooses to continue working for that company, will his stay on the ship be counted towards his stay in the US or not. My mom will continue to stay in US while he is on the ship. And also they can pay the taxes in US, on all his earnings.
For example: In a year, my dad goes on the ship for 4 months while my mom continues to stay in US. Then he comes back to US, stays here for 3 months together with my mom and then they go to India for 5 months. Then for my mom 7 months will be counted towards her stay here. But for my dad, will it be 3 months or 7 months???
