I am a native born USC working overseas as a contractor on official orders for the U.S. military for the past 13 years. My wife of 25 years has been a GC holder since 1981 and is officially accompanying me as a dependent spouse. She applied for an I-131 Sept 2002 but has not yet received it. She must return to the U.S. by 1 Sept 2003 to avoid going over one year out of the U.S. If she files an N-400 and has it in-process before 1 Sept, does she still have to return to the U.S. to keep her GC status?
