Outside of USA for more than 6 months while AOS pending

Any body stayed outside of USA for more than 6 months while AOS is pending and used AP to enter USA. If so could you please tell your experience while entering the USA.
Please advise us as my wife is planning to stay outside of USA for more than 6 months and less than 1 year.
