i came from egypt to the US with a student visa in oct 1999 to attend flight school becuase i wanted to be a pilot. i stopped after 2 months of being here, and wanted to study something else, but my visa was only a 6 month visa. ive been out of status since. but i have been married to a US citizen for a year and 1 month now. I filed for a GC. and now they have asked me to get approved for my special registration in order to get my work permit and ssn.i was supposed to have registered in 2002 but i was scared to get deported. i have till march 6th to file special registration. BUt being from an arab country and attending flight school, and being out of status for 5 yrs, is there a possibility of getting deported? detained? arrested? etc.... what is the worst that can happpen? and what can i do about it?

Consult a lawyer for more accurate information. But technically once you have filed your 485 and dont have any pending arrests etc, I dont think they can do much before adjudication on your case. So you should be okay. But again, I'm not a lawyer, consult a competent one if you have to.
