out of status from F1

I came to us on aF1 visa 2004 sept.,due to financial constraints i have dropped out of course., which is what technically out of status.I am a film maker trying find some work, what should i do to to get an official stay and work permit. what am i supposed to do?

You can get reinstated by enrolling back to school. Or you can play DV lottery. If you win you could get green card. Other options are marriage or sponsorship through employment.
The question is: how long have you been out of status? If you have been for more then 180 days, you are very likely to get deported and ban from US for 3 years before you get to do any adjustment of status. Good luck!
