out of country w/o reentry, overstay on health ground

Hi,

My grand parents (both 80+) have green cards and went to India in May 2006 without applying reentry as they did not intend to stay more than 9-10 months.

Unfortunately, my grand mother was admitted to the hospital due to a heart problem and she might not recover for travel by May 07.

What are her/their options, looking at the fact that they did not file reentry permit?

They might be eligible for an SB-1 (Returning Residents) Visa if they can verify that their temporary stay abroad was for reasons beyond their control.
