Out of country travel after applying for citizenship

Hi all,

I am planning to apply for the citizenship before thr fee increase from July 30. I already have some scheduled trips (one for a few days and the other for several weeks). Is this going to be any problem? This would not have any effect on continuous residency requirement. My only concern that these trips would not be in the application and if it would delay processing somehow.

Thanks in advance,

KC

Being a few weeks abroad will obviously affect the total number of days spent outside the country. If you are/were at the edge of the physical presence requirement (for example having spent 29 months in the last 5 years outside the country), you would seriously need to question your desire to spend this time abroad.

A recommendation: do the math and add up the number of days you have spent outside the country during the 5-year (or 3-year) period of reference.

The issue in being abroad while the Naturalization process is ongoing is mostly about you being able to be at the Application Support Center for Fingerprinting and then at the DO for the Interview, provided that you meet the residence requirements.

you can add stuff at interview time

You can add information to your N-400 application at the interview time.
Stuff like, kids/wife/trips/dui etc do change overtime. and hence the reason for the IO do go thru your application at the interview time.

Make sure, you have written down all the changes(enhancements ) to your application, before you go the the interview.

Thanks folks. This would not affect the residency requirement. Total time spend out of country in the last 5 years would not be more than 12 weeks even after these trips.

Then the only thing you need to be concerned about is not missing either FP or the interview. Have someone check your mail while you are away.

I've heard missing FP is not a big deal. Rescheduling is possible (from what i read here). The delay may be more in interview rescheduling.

Folks can correct me if I'm wrong.
