In the N-400, there is one question which says if you ever used any other name. I am a little bit confused. I used to work as a tech support guy in the U.S. and used to answer customer calls used an commonly used "American" alias for convinience rather than my legal foreign name which customers have difficulty to pronounce. I have never used this "American" alias in any of my legal documents, only used this alias in my customer service work. During my green card application and employment authorization application, in the biography section where it says other names/alias used, I did put down my "American" alias. Looking back, I am not sure whether I should have put down that alias in the GC documentation.
My question for N-400 application that I am filling up now, in the question where asks for Other Names Used, do I need to put done the non-legal "American" alias I used before for my customer service job but never used in any of my legal documents. My current thought is that alias is NOT a legal name, therefore I do not need to put it in the other names used question, which, I believe, asks for Other LEGAL names. Any comments will be appreciated.
