Order of Stuff

I was wondering in what order everything happens, especially with the fingerprints and the EAD. What comes first? Can I get the EAD without going to have my fingerprints taken? We sent our papers a little while ago and we got the received notice but I just want to know what to expect next.

FP's and biometrics appointment is next. You will received it on the mail and with it you go to the ASC (the address that should be in the notice) to be taken. After that you should received your EAD. The "after" in several weeks later.

First:you will receive a letter for fingerprints to be taken, telling you where and where you have to go.
After: you will receive the EAD, usally the all process takes 3 months.
Then: waiting for the interview letter.

Oh OK, I wasn't sure if the fingerprints were needed for the EAD or for the final aproval of the GC.

Another question: So if in 3 months from the date of the received notice I still don't have my EAD, I can personally go to my DO and ask for one right there right? Of course, providing proof that I have a job waiting. Would they give me an EAD right then and there or would tell tell me to wait for a couple of weeks till I receive in on the mail? The thing is that I'm a little worried since I have a set date when I need to start working, it is like 3 months, 2 weeks from the date in the received notice.

Thanks so much!

Well, they don't need and they have nothing to do with the issue that a job is waiting for you. To have a job pending is irrelevant to receive a benefit from USCIS. Is the same thing with an Advance Parole (AP) and if you have an airline ticket.

If in 90 days of your receipt date you haven't received your EAD card (if you receive a RFE that delay things most of the time), you can make an INFOPASS and go with all your documents (receipts). When you make an infopass you set the appointment with the subject that you are looking for (there is a menu). You will received an "iEAD" (an interim EAD). There are many people in this forum that went through that process like Ari4u, who can explain you in detail. Right Ari :) ?

The FP's and biometrics are needed for both.

payala, you would soon get notice for FP like the others mentioned here. You need to have your FP/Bio done for your I-765 (Code 2) and I-485 (Code 3). Look at the AOS timeline table for an explanation of ASC codes if you dont already know. The pictures you submitted to USCIS with your application form are for their records and will not be used to print on the cards. Rather, the picture taken when you go for your Fp/Bio would be used to print on the cards. Your fingerprint would also be printed on these cards.

If you do not get your EAD in 90 days from your RD, you can go to your DO and get iEAD the same day (Dont forget to get appt via infopass as you would not be allowed inside without one). Your FP and pic would be taken that day and you will be issued a card after a brief wait. The iEAD card would look like the ugly version of the real EAD card and is only valid for 8 months. The pic taken that day would be used on your iEAD.

Some DO's respect your need for an iEAD because you have a pending job offer and some dont care. You may have to try your luck as there has been partial success getting an iEAD with a job offer letter before 90 days were up.

Good luck!

Thank you so much for your responses! I'm gonna wait and see, hopefully no INFOPASS apt will be necessary.

I thought I read somewhere that in order to get an iEAD you need to show proof that you have a job waiting for you. It doesn't really matter I guess...

Thanks again!
