Optional Practical Training Expiration and H1-B Visa

After the optional practical training expires how many days does one have to get a H1-B approved? Is it OK if one files for H1-B visa before the practical training expires? My H1-B has been approved after the Practical training expired. However I filed my H1 before my Practical training expired.

Any comments and feedback is greatly appreciate.
 
You are supposed to file before your OPT expires. If not you run the risk of being out of status if your OPT expires and your H1-B has not be approved.
