Hello all. I need some urgent help from you. I am a student with F-1 status and will graduate in 2 months. I heard from someone that its not advisable to travel when you are on OPT( optional practical training). I would like to visit my country for 2 weeks and return back before my graduation. But I have already applied for OPT and my application is under processing with USCIS. I have also recieved another I-20 form from my international advisor. My advisor is not sure if its safe to travel in such conditions. Can anybody suggest me if its safe to travel in such conditions?
A quick response would be highly appreciated as I would like to go ahead and reserve my tickets asap and fly in 3 days. Thanks
Axl

I dont know about now.But when I graduated back in 2000, I know a couple of my friends who left the US after applying for the OPT hoping to get their cards mailed to them by their friends and when USCIS(formely called INS back then) realized that they had left the country, cancelled their OPTs and they were stuck in their home country.
But in your case you might be able to come back if your F-1 is still valid and if you are still a full time student (as you havenot graduated yet).My friends had graduated before they went home.

Hi hadenuf Thanks for replying. The only problem I have is that I have an OPT application pending with USCIS and I have recieved a different I-20 form now. I am not sure if travelling with a pending application would be safe enough. What I-20 form do you think should I get it signed before I leave US? the new or the previous one? My previous I-20 form is stamped but not the new one.
