Hi,
I am a Masters student and am about to Graduate on May 5th 2006... just one small problem regarding my OPT... I was required to select the OPT start date after May 6th and within July 4th... [grace period of 2 months]... and I applied for my OPT taking full advantage of those 2 months... to start on the 3rd of July. The problem however is, that now I have almost 3-4 job offers and unfortunately I cant work with continuously since I cant work for the 2 months... May 5th to July 3rd... has anyone faced a similar problem before? What can be done in this case?
I called INS and they told me to file a withdrawal petition... but I am scared that since the INS takes too long with applications... incase my petition takes time to get approved and then I reapply again with new dates... I might have missed the OPT-filing date... kindly help me out.
Also, another question is... if I continue with the same dates... and my OPT starts on the 3rd of July... and if I join a consultant... would I have to wait till the 3rd of July to file my H1 or can I do it before the OPT starts... provided I have the EAD card number? If I file my H1 on the 3rd of July... and since H1 starts in Oct... would I be too late to file?
