OPT & Reinstatement of F1 Visa

Hi,
I recently completed my Master's(F1) and started working full-time. Although the company had applied for my H1 visa this year(Applied in General Quota as I technically hadn't graduated from my college), my application couldnt survive till the "Lottery" process we saw this year for H1 Visa's. Now, I'm currently working on OPT which is going to be valid till the last week of May, 2008. Considering better odds for my H1 Application next year (Advanced Degree Quota application since I'll have my Master's), I need to maintain a valid immigration status till Oct when my H1 effectively starts.(4 months starting June).

Out of all the options available, joining KAPLAN's 6 months course or roughly, getting myself back into F1 Status, seems most viable for me and quite impeccably fits my current case.

My question is, If I get a new I-20 from say Kaplan or any other university for that matter, do I have to leave the country and get it Passport stamped again in my home country to reinstate back to F1? In other words, do any of the formalities required for reinstatement require going back to my home country??
Besides the above question, I'd really appreciate it if someone could tell what these formalities actually are per se.

Thank You.
