OPT processing at CSC

Folks,
I've applied for my OPT at CSC, the date of receipt being Oct 17,2002. I've still not got my case approved, is anybody else observing similar delay.
I've been trying hard but dont have a standing offer, hence am not very particular in getting the temporary EAD card that local INS office issues. But I want to travel to India in June for my brother's wedding, can I do that without OPT being approved. I've a valid F1 visa till the end of next year.
Now that INS is taking so much time to approve, what is the start date on the OPT card being issued (is it the date on which they approve or is it the date that we applied for). I would really appreciate your feedback regarding these issues.

Generally the INS approves the OPT from the date that was mentioned as the start date. It is not advisable to leave the US before the OPT is approved as the INS usually takes the position that the OPT application is abandoned by travel. Better strategy would be to get the interim EAD.
 
In my case, application receipt date was Sept 23, 2002. I just learnt that my OPT is approved on 04-11-03. I think it takes a while to receive actual card though. I will post it here when I'll get hold of my EAD card.

In my opinion, CSC is possibly slowest service center. Just for sunny weather we pay so much more in terms of time money taxes .....

sweeta_dd, I totally agree with every letter of what you said abt CSC. Could you also plz post the starting date of your OPT card (what date you applied for and what is the actual starting date on the EAD card) when you get it. I'll keep my fingers crossed till I get mine.

vand_k, you know that you can track the status of your application thro' BCIS website, right? All you need is receipt number.
 
LIGHTENING SPEED !!!!

vand_k, I just heard from my wife that I have received my OPT card in mail and the dates are:

Approved on(Starting Date): April 11, 2003
Expires on: Feb 19, 2004.

Here is the sequence of events.

Sept 23, 2002 - Receipt notice issued.
Dec 20, 2002 - is when i originally wanted to start my OPT.
Dec 23, 2002 - I got interim OPT (of course I did not hear from INS till then)
April 11, 2003 - My OPT got approved & is the start date on my EAD card.
April 18, 2003 - I received EAD card in mail.
Feb 19, 2004 - is when my OPT expires.

Thanks a lot for the info, the long wait is finally over for you. These guys are considerate enough to push the start date of OPT to the approval date. I do check my status online with my WAC #.
I've one more question, from the April 15 CA processing report I see
"I-765 for all other employment authorization - 8/14/2002"

This information has not changed from 01/01/03 report, how trustworthy is this information. Once again, thanks very much and good luck.

Seems like BS to me. I also noted that 08/14/02 date does not change. I would suggest not to believe that info.

My receipt date was sept 23, 2002. SO, if yours is 17th oct., you also should expect it in few weeks.
 
Even my application has been approved, they approved it on April 18th and have sent my card for printing. Looks like these guys are suddenly processing with great speed, didnt expect it to be approved so soon. Anyways good luck to everyone,
