OPT expires while waiting for H1 approval

Hi,

I am currently working on OPT and have applied for H1 to the Texas center and have a receipt date of mid-November. I have not yet received H1 approval and considering the time its taking at this center I don't know if I will be getting one by May which is when my OPT is expiring.

Somebody told me that you can still work while your H1 application is being processed if it has been a certain time after the H1 application. Is that true ? If not , what are the options to avoid a break period between my OPT expiration and H1 approval.

Please let me know. Thanks.
 
AS I understand,

you could not work,only can stay at home if your OPT expires.

the best way is to pay $1000 to upgrade to premium process,which you can get your H1 approval in 15 days .

if what i said is not right, someone pleaese revise it
