My I-20 expired on 9/15/06 and I have a post-completion OPT
starting from 9/16/06. I did not get to complete the program by
9/15/06 (it will take another 3 months) and failed to extend I-20.
I also filed AOS right before my I-20 expired, and have been
waiting for EAD.
Does anyone know if I can use my post-completion OPT as
pre-completion OPT and work as a research assistant
until AOS-EAD comes in, even though I have not completed the program?
International Student Office says it is a gray area, but probably
I should not use the OPT until I complete the program. My attorney
says he does not see any problem.
The last thing that I want to happen is to get a GC and then
after a few years INS somehow picks this up and cancels the GC.
